Southern believes that a broad approach has a deeper impact, and that to truly build communities and change lives, it takes a committed network of partners.
Continuing a years-long partnership, Southern will be a Community Champion in Arkansas and Mississippi for Prosperity Now, formerly the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED).
Along with 62 other Community Champions across 39 States and D.C., Southern will work with Prosperity Now to coordinate and advance effective programs and policies at every level of government.
The specific focus areas for Community Champions – consumer protection, equitable tax reform, affordable housing, and protecting the safety net – will complement Southern’s three audacious 10-year goals of assisting 10,000 people to attain affordable housing, creating or retaining 100,000 jobs, and empowering 1,000,000 people to save. The goals of Community Champions should also advance Southern’s policy agenda that aims to incentivize, promote, and remove barriers to saving.
“We’re honored and excited to be named a Community Champion by Prosperity Now,” Southern CEO Darrin Williams said. “We look forward to working with other mission-driven organizations from around the country to create economic opportunity.”
Previously, Southern served as the lead organization for Arkansas within CFED’s Assets and Opportunity Network.
