Asset Builders Participant
Katherine Augustus enrolled in Southern’s Asset Builders program and opened an Individual Development Account (IDA) in July 2004 to purchase a home and save for her son’s college education expenses. In May 2005 she purchased a home for herself and her two children. The IDA funds at that time were used for her closing costs and down payment. In August 2007, she used her second account for her son’s tuition, books, and fees at Alabama State University. He enrolled as an undergraduate freshman majoring in Biology with an emphasis on Human Anatomy with the career goal of becoming a chiropractor. The Asset Builders program has afforded Katherine the opportunity to acquire a new home for her family as well as help pay some of her son’s college expenses.
